OVO Drive is our brand new electric vehicle offer which sees anyone signing up to it receiving a discount of $0.05/kWh on their electricity between the hours of 00:00 and 05:00, every day of the week.
How can I access this offer?
You will now see “OVO Drive” in the navigation of our website which will take you to the brand new EV landing page at www.ovoenergy.com.au/electric-vehicles/
By clicking on the Get OVO Drive button, you will be sent to the usual quote and switch flow, where you will now see the OVO Drive promotion has been activated.
You then sign up to either The One Plan or The One Plan + 100% - with a discount applied to electricity consumed between 00:00 and 05:00 to charge your EV.
Where is this available?
It’s available on every tariff we currently support in VIC, NSW, QLD and SA.
Are there any specific requirements in order to receive this offer?
There are only 2 requirements;
- You MUST have a smart meter installed
- Obviously you must have an electric vehicle…!
We will validate the your vehicle is an EV by verifying your registration plates after the sale. Once we’re able to do so, we will also monitor the vehicle itself, and ensure all of the energy consumed during midnight and 5am, is actually going to the EV, and is where the discount is applied.
What happens if I don't provide a registration number before I go live with OVO?
The switch can still go ahead. We just need to validate the registration before your first bill is generated, which will be 30-45 days after sign up, to make sure that we allocate your charges correctly. If we’re unable to validate the registration at all, then we will reserve the right to simply leave you on the tariff you signed up to - either The One Plan or The One Plan + 100% - and you won’t receive the discount until you provide your registration details.
Will the offer be reflected in MyOVO?
Not yet. If you think this would be useful, do let us know, and we'll work to add it.
For now, you will simply be able to see the discounted rate on your statements as a line item called “Usage - EV Charging”.
I am an existing customer, can I switch to this offer?
Yes, of course! We will just need to get your registration details, and then add the OVO Drive EV offer to your existing tariff.
Can a customer apply on two accounts / two different properties?
There are no limitations, you just need to have a smart meter and an EV.
This is true for both the case of having two properties where the same EV may be charged from time to time, OR if they have two properties and two EVs. If it’s just the one car, we’ll validate the registration once, if it’s two EVs we will validate both registrations before providing the offer.

How many electric vehicles are on the road?
There are currently only ~20,000 electric vehicles on Australian roads. Right now, there are 28 EV models available. The EV market is small over here - but it’s growing, and fast.
Globally all major car manufacturers are committing to an electric vehicle future, and will be phasing out the petrol and diesel counterparts over the next 5-10 years.
We want to better understand consumer behaviour so we’re keen to get more EV users as OVO customers now, to allow us to create more interesting, exciting and relevant propositions for them in the future.
