Eligibility criteria and joining EV Insights
Why should I use EV Insights?
EV Insights will provide you with data and metrics associated with your EV charging at home.
It will give you an estimate of how much you’re spending on home charging as well as more detailed insights into your home charging sessions and current EV status (level of charge).
EV Insights is a stepping stone to more enhanced insights and functionality accessible to our EV customers. We are planning to deploy further ‘smart charging’ features to our customers in early 2024.
How do I access EV Insights?
On MyOVO web and in the app, if you're eligible, there will be an EV page visible to you in your navigation. If you click on this page you will be able to connect your EV.
Which vehicles are compatible with the EV Insights?
EV Insights is currently restricted to Tesla vehicles.
To be able to access EV Insights you must be able to access and use your vehicle app (i.e. the Tesla app).
If you are unsure about whether or not your vehicle is compatible, please contact us either via email@example.com , 1300 937 686 or open webchat now.
Which tariff type do I need to be on to join the EV Insights?
To access EV Insights you need to be a single rate EV Plan customer.
Overlaid on top of your single rate is your EV Charging rate between 00:00-06:00 and your Super Off Peak day rate between 11:00-14:00.
Are there any other critical requirements that I need to meet in order to be eligible for EV Insights?
You must have working access to the Tesla app.
You must also have the ability to charge your vehicle at home and your car must be able to connect to the internet whilst charging.
Do you track my vehicle location?
We don't keep a record of your location. We only track the location of your vehicle so that we know when the vehicle is plugged in at home.
When we receive data, we check the location to see if you're at home or not, and then mark your vehicle as either 'home' or 'away'.
Security and customer privacy is of the highest importance to us and we work closely with vehicle manufacturers to ensure the amount of data that needs to be shared to enable smart charging is kept to an absolute minimum.
Am I eligible if I have Solar PV or a battery?
Right now, unfortunately you are not eligible if you have solar or a battery.
This service surfaces cost insights based on your EV charging and tariff rates. It does not take into account solar charging or charging from a home battery.
We will be supporting solar customers in the very near future.
I charge my car in a location that has no internet connection, can I still join EV Insights?
In order to join EV Insights we require that your vehicle can connect to the internet when charging at home.
What happens if I move home?
If you are moving home, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for support.
How does EV Insights connect to my vehicle?
EV Insights connects to your vehicle in exactly the same way as your car’s app.
IMPORTANT NOTE: EV Insights does not interact with any other aspect of your vehicle, and it can only surface charging insights when you’re charging at home.
Can I continue to use my car’s app?
Yes, absolutely. Your car’s app will continue to work as it has always done.
What will happen to my car and my car’s app if I leave EV Insights?
If you decide to exit EV Insights, data will no longer be surfaced to you in your MyOVO web / app experience.
Your car will continue to charge as normal and your car app will work as normal. At no point as part of EV Insights will your car’s app be affected.
There is a problem with my car, was it caused by EV Insights?
It is important to understand that EV Insights does not interact or interfere with ANY of your car’s systems.
How do I leave EV Insights?
If you’d like to leave EV Insights at any point, you need to contact us and we can disconnect you from the service, you can call us on 1300 937 686, send us a webchat message or email email@example.com.
EV Insights will no longer track and surface charging data.
How does EV Insights calculate my home charging costs and does it affect my bill?
Your estimated charging costs are based on the rate you pay for electricity (this will vary depending on the tariff you are on) and the amount of charging that takes place whilst you’re at home (EV Insights pairs with your Tesla app and therefore knows the amount of charging that takes place). For example, if you pay a flat rate of $0.25/kWh for your home energy usage and your Tesla is charged 10kWh in one session the estimated cost of that charge will be $2.50.
The costs are simply an estimate and do not impact your bill. Solar charging or charging from a home battery is not taken into account when calculating costs.
Will EV Insights impact my car’s battery?
EV Insights will have no impact on your car’s battery.
What should I do if there’s a problem with EV Insights?
If you have any issues, please contact us on either 1300 937 686, via webchat or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What should I do if EV Insights can’t connect to my vehicle?
It can take up to two minutes to connect to your vehicle. If you still haven’t connected after this time:
- Please check that you can login to your car’s app
If you’re unable to, or if your car’s app isn’t working, then EV Insights won’t work. You’ll need to find out why your car’s app isn’t working and fix it.
Common reasons include:
a) Your car’s app is suffering a technical issue – this will usually sort itself out in an hour or two
b) You have changed your username and password and need to login again
- Check that your car is able to connect to the internet when plugged in at home.
If your car can’t connect – either via wifi or an onboard cellular connection – then EV Insights won’t work as expected.
