To be eligible for Bill Smoothing:
a. You must be on a Market Retail Contract with OVO Energy; and
b. You cannot be on a different payment arrangement or hardship plan with OVO Energy.
You agree to pay your Bill Smoothing payments via Direct Debit.
You agree to receive your Bill Smoothing review letter by email unless you have told us you want to receive a paper copy by post. A fee may apply for paper bills.
OVO Energy may vary these Bill Smoothing terms and conditions at any time. If we vary these Bill Smoothing terms and conditions, we will provide you with reasonable advance notice of the change (unless we reasonably consider that the change will cause you no detriment, in which case we will provide you with written notice of the change as soon as practicable, which may be after the variation takes effect but no later than on your next bill).
Terms that are not defined in these Terms are defined in OVO Energy’s Market Retail Contract Terms and Conditions for small customers - available here.
Bill Smoothing payments, calculation and review
We will calculate your Bill Smoothing payments based on:
a. the energy charges for amount of energy we think you will use during each year which we will estimate in accordance with energy laws and divide that number by 12 to determine our estimate of energy you will use each month; plus
b. any other charges applicable during the billing period.
You agree that your Bill Smoothing payments are based on an estimate and you will be required to pay for your actual usage if it is more than you have paid for. To manage this we will review your Bill Smoothing payment amounts and adjust them if necessary.
We will review your Bill Smoothing arrangements periodically (we aim to do this at least twice a year) to assess whether your Bill Smoothing payments are appropriate with regard to the energy being consumed, based on our actual readings of the meter.
Following a review, if required, your Bill Smoothing payment amount will be adjusted and you will be advised of the changes by email.
You agree to pay your Bill Smoothing payments monthly unless we agree fortnightly or weekly.
If you make your Bill Smoothing payments on a monthly basis, your chosen payment date cannot be the 29th, 30th or 31st day of any given month. If one of those dates is selected, your payment date will be deferred to the 1st day of the following month.
You can choose to change your Bill Smoothing payments or make an extra top up payment at any time by contacting us or via MyOVO or the OVO app. You cannot set your payment amount less than what we estimate you will need to pay for your energy consumption over the next 12 months.
If your account is in sufficient credit to cover your next scheduled payment, you may skip your next direct debit payment in MyOVO or the OVO app, or by contacting us.
If you cancel your Bill Smoothing payment arrangement, any outstanding amounts owing on your account must be paid in full.
Bill Smoothing term and cancellation
Your Bill Smoothing arrangement is ongoing and will continue until either you or we end it.
You may cancel at any time by providing us with notice. You will be required to pay your bills by another OVO Energy approved payment method (set out on your bill under the “How to pay” heading).
We may cancel your Bill Smoothing arrangement if you fail to make payments in full by the relevant due dates. If you do not make a payment, we will send you a reminder notice. If you do not make a payment by the date stated in that reminder notice, we may cancel your arrangement and the total unpaid amount due on your account at the date of cancellation will become payable. You may also be subject to other collection activities. You may contact OVO Energy at any time to arrange another payment arrangement or request financial hardship assistance.
If you notify us you are moving out or you are switching to another energy provider, your Bill Smoothing arrangement will be cancelled once any amounts owed on your account are paid.
If your Bill Smoothing arrangement ends and your account is in credit, you may request that credit be refunded. If you do not make such a request, the credit will remain on your account to pay future bills if your account remains active, otherwise it will be refunded.
We reserve the right to, at any time, withdraw this product or stop or change a Bill Smoothing arrangement with 14 days prior notice.
